Diesel Motor Mechanic (Mobile plant) maintain, test, and repair the mechanical components of mobile plant machinery, including drill rigs, loaders, excavators, graders, haul trucks, cranes, and compactors, as well as diesel engines. Diesel mechanics are specialized experts who inspect and fix automobiles and other machinery powered by diesel fuel. Larger vehicles like trucks, farm equipment, and construction machinery typically use diesel engines, which can be difficult to maintain without years of specialized training or study. 

Occupation description

Mobile plant mechanics maintain, test, and repair the mechanical components of mobile plant machinery, including drill rigs, loaders, excavators, graders, haul trucks, cranes, and compactors, as well as diesel engines. 

Their job involves:

  • Identifying and fixing mechanical and electrical problems identifying and fixing mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Inspecting parts and disassembling and removing steering mechanisms, engine assemblies, transmissions, and other components.
  • Reassemble mechanical parts, replace worn-out or damaged parts, and consult service manuals as needed.
  • executing planned maintenance procedures, such as engine tune-ups, lubrications, and oil changes, to guarantee compliance with pollution standards and facilitate smoother car operation.
  • Putting engines and other pieces back together after repairs.
  • Mechanical parts that have been repaired and adjusted to ensure optimal operation.
  • Using computers to assist with part testing and diagnosis.

Note: Motor mechanics that operate mobile plant equipment in the automobile retail, service, and repair sectors fall into this category. Forklifts, large commercial vehicles, agricultural equipment mechanics, and specialists in car air conditioning, braking systems, and tiny engines are not covered by this.

Stage 1:

Stage 2:

Technical Assessment

If you make it through Stage 1, you will have a technical interview with our assessor. The assessor will question you regarding applying the knowledge needed to work in your trade in Australia. No interpreters will be permitted for the technical interview, which will be conducted in English.
