Skill Requirement

Most jobs in this unit group require at least a bachelor’s degree. A formal qualification can replace at least five years of experience in the field and vendor certification. In some cases, a formal qualification may not be enough. Experience and training on the job may be needed (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).

What do Software Engineers do?

Using various engineering and programming skills, you can make software products, build video games, and run network control systems. They run the whole software development life cycle (SDLC) and create documents to define specifications, strategies, flowcharts, and templates to make things run smoothly.

Task

  1. Needs for testing, consulting, interpretation, and evaluation of system programs
  2. Finding technical flaws and weaknesses in existing systems and related tools, techniques, and methods
  3. Checking, debugging, diagnosing, and fixing errors and bugs in software programming language under specified testing procedures, requirements, and consistency criteria to ensure that programs and applications meet the specifications.
  4. Writing and maintaining software code to meet system criteria, system architecture, and technical specifications in line with consistent, accredited standards
  5. Writing, updating, and maintaining technical systems, end-user documents, and operating procedures
  6. Give suggestions, feedback, and your own experience on making plans and methods for software design operations, such as how to figure out how much it will cost to buy and improve the software.

English Requirement

  1. IELTS score of minimum 6  (L, R, W), 7 in speaking and 7 overall;
  2. OET score with a minimum grade of B in all sections;
  3. TOEFL iBT with a minimum score (L:12, R:13, W:21, S:23 and overall L93);
  4. PTE Academic with a minimum score of 50 (L, R, W), 65 in speaking, and 65 overall.

  • In some states and territories, there are exceptions for Australian graduates.
  • In certain states/territories, Priority Skilled Lists may apply a particular requirement.
  • The United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, the United States, and Ireland shall be excluded from submitting IELTS or OET scores.

Where mandatory licensing or registration is required, you must demonstrate an English proficiency sufficient to meet the licensing/registration criteria or a minimum IELTS or equivalent level, whichever is higher.
