Occupation description

Bricklayers build and fix walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures by laying bricks, pre-cut stone, and other building components in mortar.

Their job involves:

  • Examining drawings and specifications to ascertain necessary materials, measurements, and installation methods.
  • Building and taking down scaffolding with a restricted height.
  • Utilizing trowels to distribute mortar layers that act as a base and binder for blocks and sealing foundations with moisture-resistant materials.
  • Arranging bricks in rows, creating patterns and forms, and filling joints with mortar.
  • Putting mortar in the bricks and taking out the extra.
  • Verifying alignment both horizontally and vertically.
  • Bricks can be shaped to fit irregular areas, and stones can be cut, shaped, and polished with hand tools and machinery.
  • Brick, cement block, and associated structural maintenance and repair.
