Who Needs an APharmC Skills Assessment?

APharmC Skills Assessment Streams
Competency Stream
The Competency Stream is normally applicable to pharmacists who have a recognised pharmacy qualification in:

Eligible candidates then advance to undergo the necessary APC process and take the Competency Assessment of Overseas Pharmacists (CAOP®) examination.
The CAOP exam evaluates knowledge, skills, and application of knowledge in the context of the USA.
Knowledge Stream
For Pharmacists who graduated outside of:
- Australia
- Canada
- Ireland
- New Zealand
- United Kingdom
- United States
This stream is specially designed for pharmacists from countries other than the above.
The Overseas Pharmacist Readiness Assessment (OPRA®) may be required for candidates taking the Knowledge Stream.

International Student Stream
The pathway is for international students who have received an approved pharmacy qualification from Australia or New Zealand, and wish to migrate to Australia.

New Zealand Registered Pharmacist Stream
Those who have graduated in New Zealand with a pharmacy qualification and are registered as a pharmacist in New Zealand could be in the New Zealand Registered Pharmacist Stream.
The relevant APC pathway will be applicable based on the applicant’s qualified and registered status and situation.
APharmC Skills Assessment Requirements

In 2026, APC made an important change to Skills Assessment Outcome validity.
On 1 July 2026, eligible overseas-trained pharmacists who have passed an APC exam and have previously had an SAO will be able to apply to renew it without needing to pass the exam again. Migration SAOs have a three-year validity period that will continue according to APC, and there are provisions to renew them under the new policy.
