Automotive electricians work on electrical wiring and electronic parts in cars, installing, maintaining, and repairing them. 

Their job involves:

  • Identifying electrical and electronic problems with test equipment.
  • Tearing down and taking apart electrical and electronic assemblies and parts.
  • Installing electronic and electrical devices in automobiles.
  • Attaching accessories and equipment for vehicles that run on electricity to a power source.
  • Modifying the timing and engine control systems.
  • Checking and changing out faulty voltage regulators, starting motors, alternators, and generators.
  • Fixing and swapping out damaged electrical and ignition wires.
  • Swapping out damaged components, including switches, bulbs, and fuses.
